10 No New Things

Today's theme is to Slash Subscriptions. I have noticed that subscriptions can be hard to keep track of. I vaguely tried to keep track of them in my diary once. It didn't work out. So this is a good, welcome exercise.

Action 1: make a list

1) SERVICES          EVERY
- Disney+            1 month     $10
- Netflix            1 month     $9
- Nintendo Online    1 year      $35
- karate             1 month     $100
- iCloud             1 month     $1
- NBA League Pass    1 year      $80
- WNBA League Pass   1 year      $35
- MLS League Pass    1 year      $100

2) RESTOCKS          EVERY
- cat medicine       6 months    $174
- coffee             6 weeks     $44
- soap & shampoo     3 months    $52

- laundry detergent  3 months    $19
- deodorant          12 weeks    $24

3) EVERYTHING ELSE   EVERY
- audiobooks         2 months    $16

For my own curiosity, Imma do some math. If we put all that together and average it out per month, we are spending $238 every month on these subscriptions, which is mostly entertainment and groceries. It's ALL entertainment and groceries besides my kids' karate classes. The numbers are what the numbers are, but you know what any of this isn't? New things.

Action 2: cancel or pause the unused

We use all the services and restocks. The entertainment subscriptions are the cheapest I can get. Most of the restocks are a bit of a luxury. I can certainly get those items for cheaper prices. I like the subscriptions I have because not only are they of superb quality, but all of the proceeds from this supplier goes directly to charities that help decrease world-suck. It may differ from what someone else might decide, but I'm happy with these subscriptions.

The only one I could easily pause would be my audiobook subscription. It used to only be monthly so I'm glad they've included a bimonthly option for me to use, but I do have a bunch of credits stockpiled from when I won their independent bookstore Golden Ticket event. ^_^ Currently I have 15 credits available... and I still have 10 unread audiobooks. I'm not going to pause it for a few reasons, though:
    1) this audiobook service directly supports the independent bookstore of my choosing
    2) they sometimes have sales that are only good for people with current memberships, which helps me get the most bang for my credit's buck
    3) I am listening to audiobooks at a rate faster than 1 per month, so even with my stockpile of prize credits, I will catch up eventually.

Action 3: calculate savings

Ah well.

The only money I spent today was on summer beers. Because, you know, yum.

Things I didn't buy today:
- <nothing>....$0
TOTAL....$108

Success!
